Opening Popup component using Javascript

I have defined a popup that I am trying to open programmatically

$( '#registerpopup' ).popup( "open" );

is this the correct way ?

Please note : I have 'Render all pages in one HTML file (...)' ticked ON

Apperyio("registerpopup").popup("open");
