Matching Labels to a Database

We are creating a app that matches tutors to those that need help. We have created ui where one can view and choose a tutor. The problem is that the tutors are assigned as labels and when chosen nothing shows up in the respective matched database. Is it possible to link labels of multiple items to a database?
