Can I only connect to secure URL's (https) from server code?

I am really sorry, but your case looks too much specific to be resolved by simple giving advice here. You might even need the standalone API Express option.
Unfortunately, in such a situation, there seems to be the only way we could help you: the Advisory Pack service (https://appery.io/services/).
