Is your app published on a server? -- edited file index.html will only work as an export source files and published on your server.

Thanks that has fixed the issue with displaying the icon but the published app still doesn't work in IE. Is this a common issue with IE? I know the development environment is not supported but would like to think the published app would work with it.

As far as I know for correct favicon displaying, IE needs this file in root directory on server, perhaps something will change with newer upcoming version of IE.

My issue is now nothing to do with the favicon displaying its that my app doesn't work in IE

Unfortunately nothing we can do here, possibly with new IE version it will works correctly.
