Header overlap with iPhone status bar as shown in screen shot

I came across this issue again, the status bar is overlapped by the app and makes it difficult to use.

Any updates on this issue? Has the root problem been addressed?
It's less then ideal to have to make additional edits in xCode.

I am still having this issue (April 2016). Can you please give guidance on how to have the ios status bar visible and not overlapping with the header? I played with the UIStatusBarHidden and UIViewControllerBasedStatusBarAppearance keys, but no result. I don't really care about pre-ios7.
