Badge is common option now.
You can find it on Push Notifications tab.

You still not get an active badge on Android, when a push is sent, icon to notify the user there is action to be taken.
The badge was always a common option, so not sure i understand what you mean there.
Recently i read the only way to have it is to change the app to a widget, but not sure how that works.

Has this been implemented? I've set up everything I need for push notification to work on my Android device. I'm able to send notifications. However, there's no badge number showing on the top-right corner of my app icon.
