when I add the panel component it doesn't seem to have the tab on the side to allow it to be opened and closed by the user, have I done something wrong, or is it an issue with appery?

Sorry for lack of clarity, I'm looking for some way to show and hide the panel. This isn't shown in the documentation you linked above, but is shown in one of your youtube videos "Using Page Templates with Panel Menu" (screenshot attached)
