Basic newbe questions on carousel

Sorry about the basic questions, but I did not find this in the documentation
For the "image" type item, do I use the Media Manager to upload the images? What is the URL in this case?
For the "html" type item, where do I fill out the HTML content? The documentation says I am not supposed to directly edit the page source to add the HTML, but then there is no place provided to enter this.
