I just ensured that I'm including the bare minimum columns using projections and load about 45 records ie 2kb but the app takes about 10 seconds to open a list view ... what's happening ?

It's very hard to say what could be the reason, this are a few that could be:
1) network connection issues;
2) rendering;
3) mapping;
4) loops in events;
