Using the "Select" button to display drop down list from a "pointer" column

Hello
I am trying to utilize the "Select" button that will display a list of items retrieved from a query and will allow the a to select one of the drop down items which will be set as a local storage variable.
My current is issue is getting the data to display at all. Below are snapshots that hopefully provides detail of the approach.
