Importing very large collections

I was wondering what the mechanism is (if there is any) to actually get a large collection (e.g. 800MB) uploaded given the much smaller maximum import limit. I'm under the impression that Appery does not have any way of appending imports automatically. I know that about a year ago, Appery suggested in a post splitting a large file, importing the splits, and then recombining them via JS - but I feel that would not be practical for very large files. Any newer/better way available for doing this automatically?
