Can I use Push Notification directly from Google

I have an app and would like to add push notifications to it. My app currently has no backend services that require appery.io, means I don't need to keep my account active when I'm done building it.

My questions is: Is there a way for me to have push notification without using appery.io? Meaning, can I integrate it and send push from my own server and bypass Appery.io?
