Geolocation Questions

I'm trying to add a bunch of markers to my google map and had a question on how best to do that. Since there are so many locations, I'd like to pull them from a database, but I'm wondering whether I can use lattitude and longitude as my "String" or do I have to use an address like New York, NY, United States? Later, I would like to customize the markers for each different location. Does anybody know how I can accomplish this?

The tutorials have been great so far, but I'm in a bit of a gray area and don't know what to apply and what not to apply. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is great, Evgene, but how can I input only latitude and longitude coordinates for the database. I've tried using just 23.765, -73.923 and it keeps telling me the is a JSON error. Not quite sure what to make of that, but most of the areas I need to map don't have addresses, just GPS coordinates. Is there a certain format I need to enter them as a string instead of a geocode? Thanks again for all your help!
