Secure REST (Appery Proxy) versus Settings REST service

I know that we can create a REST Settings service which stores various parameters (i.e. consumerKey and consumerKeySecret) which is then used when we make a call to a service. However, there seems to be a possibility to do this use Secure REST (Appery.io Proxy) also.

So which should we use? What are the advantages of one over the other?
