Uploading image data to the appery database

This is a great tutorial on how to upload file to the appery database, but it does not work for binary file (like images). Is there a way to make this work for images (jpegs in particular)?

I suspect the problem has to do with the encoding of the file data as it's read in as text.

The tutorial that mention does show how to upload files (binary). What didn't work for you?
