Updating database record

Hoping someone can help with this....I would like to be able to update records in a database, are there any tutorials on this? I have a student timetable app and would like to be able to update subject, classroom and teacher for each day/session. Thanks

I think I might need to use a local storage variable, then when the user clicks on update this is when i need the local storage variable to be update the database.
