How to do an http get or post

Hi

I want to do an http get from a web application and then use the returned result in my app.

Example: [url=http://address:port?id=id&req=request]http://address:port?id=id&req=request[/url]

This should then return an xml that I want to parse and then use in further interaction with the web application.
