Help navigating a long list of columns during the mapping process

In my situation, for example, I've got a collection with several hundred columns. It would be enormously helpful to be able to find a particular column in the collection more quickly by being able to see the list sorted by column name, and/or perhaps by use of a filter of some type. It would dramatically speed up the mapping process.
