REST works with echo but not actual service?

When I test a REST service I setup I get a response that I copied into Echo response and that works, I get the response alerted back to me. When I switch off Echo for it to use the actual service I get a loading icon and then no response is alerted back to me as per my javascript. Am I going mad?

Hi Dylan.

Probably you use external service with external (not Appery.io) url?
If that's it thus you should use Appery.io proxy.

Thank you for that information, the proxy works. It says the proxy is for testing and development only, I'm not sure I understand why this needs to be used? Could you explain more?
