If I input an html form in the html component can I use the information from that form to directly update my database ?

Or do I have to build a form type App and only use the REST services for that? I have tried using the update service in an App and nothing is updating, that's why I'm asking.
I've tried many different things, to post to the database and none of them seem to work.

As this is a cloud database your app communicates with it via REST API.
