Almost there, need a push!

I followed Yuri's example to save push notifications to a database using create and list services. It works great as long as the app is closed. I have included an event handler for push notifications on the other pages also. When the app is open I receive the push alert but the create service never writes it to the database.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
