Current Location and User-set Locations With Maps

I'm not too terribly familiar with programming geolocation. I have no problem getting the map to show up in the app. However, what I would like to do is find the user's current location as well as locations that the user sets from finding an address or place. I can't find a comprehensive tutorial to help me find my answer.

Can someone take another look at that tutorial, it doesn't seem to work anymore, the mapping of $ to localStorage never brings anything back, i've put some console.log's in the JS but it never hits it. However if i map the $ to say a listitem I can see data is definitley beign returned, just fails to map to localStorage.
